As I try to navigate this new territory of homeschooling, I thought we should visit a local co-op. We visited the Lawton Christian Homeschool Educators. I decided to keep the kids in the same class for the first day and see how everything went. Emmalynn is more advanced than this class and will start others soon. However, it is the perfect class for Josiah!
Emmalynn was sick on this day, but Siah was NOT going to miss his school. He was super excited to go back. We are still facing transition adjustments with Siah as he learns the American culture. This has been the best opportunity to help him learn social skills and norms for American kids and allow him to feel safe with me nearby.
Today we read a story about bears, made bear ears and did a Show and Tell about bears. Siah shared about his special blue bear that he likes to sleep with. He stood up and answered questions in front of the class. I was very proud of him. Now that he is fully immersed in English, we have seen his language skills flourish. He wasn't talking much when we left Azerbaijan and what words he did use were usually Azeri. He is quickly catching up to other kids his age that only speak English.
We have been learning about Monet. This started at Co-op when the kids looked at some pictures that Monet painted and then created their own version. I think Emmalynn's is beautiful! We got a book from the library with a lot of info on Monet. It has been fun learning about his work. Emmalynn loves art and so this is exciting for her to create like this.
This makes me laugh. We had just woke up and she was ready to debate! Guess I know what we need to work on this year. HA!
We took some advice from some friends and Em's past teacher at the Montessori Academy and purchased the Bob books. LOVE THESE!! Emmalynn is already reading more books and her confidence it growing with each word that she learns to read on her own. She asks everyday if she can read her own books.
